A 41-year-old man was allegedly robbed of Rs44, 000 by persons on a bike in Sector 1 on Tuesday morning, the police said.

Balram, an office assistant at a private firm in Sector 7, had withdrawn Rs45,000 from his company’s account with ICICI Bank in Sector 1 around 11.30am. He stepped out of the bank and was walking towards his office when two men on a bike approached him and robbed him.

The police said that the victim was carrying the cash in his pocket and they suspect that the two men were following him. Both were on the bike but the pillion rider got off when they neared him in B -block. He went to Balram and asked him to hand over the cash.

Initially, he resisted but was forced to part with the cash as the robber flashed a knife at him.

The victim would regularly visit the bank to deposit and withdraw cash. It was his duty as an office assistant in the transport company. He has been working in the company for the last five years and his statement has been recorded, the police said.

Of the Rs 45,000 snatched from Balram, the robber slipped Rs1,000 into the victim’s pocket. The complainant told the police that the entire incident took place in a matter of minutes.

After the robbers fled the spot, Balram called the police control room and a team headed by circle office Abhinandan and the station house officer of Sector 20 police station reached the spot.

Balram narrated his case, after which a case of robbery was registered at Sector 20 police station.

“We are investigating the case from all angles. The area where the robbery took place is always crowded. Even when we reached the spot, there were many people in the vicinity. We are not ruling out the robbery, but it is surprising that Rs1,000 was returned to him,” said Abhinandan, circle officer, City-1.

Balram is a resident of Kaushambi district and is a resident of Chaura village in Sector 22.
