The Noida authority has submitted a list of its 44 authorised parking lots in city to the traffic police. The two agencies are working together to fix the problem of illegal parking in the city and streamline traffic.
Apart from submitting this list, the authority has also assured its cooperation in barricading all authorised parking areas so that the contractors running them are forced to follow the guidelines for the sites allotted to them. At present, the contractors use the roads and vacant spaces available beyond the areas allotted to them to park vehicles, thus contributing to traffic congestion.
It has been a major contention of the traffic police that parking areas in the city are not specified or fenced to provide a clear demarcation.
“We have received complaints that the city has many illegal parking lots. However, before cracking on illegal parking, we need to identify legal parking areas for better action,” said Prabal Pratap Singh, superintendent of police (SP), traffic, Noida.
Harsh Vardhan Singh Bhadauriya, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Noida authority, said, “Our job is to create parking sites and issue guidelines for users and parking vendors for the convenience of both. These guidelines are available at every parking site.”
“On the traffic police’s request we have submitted the list of 44 parking lots and are ready to cooperate with them if any more help is required,” he added
According to residents, they have made many complaints to the police that hundreds of illegal parking sites are operational in Noida.
“The police should crack down on parking mafia and streamline the system to make it fair and transparent. We have repeatedly appealed to the traffic police and the authority to specify the area for every parking site,” said Sushil Kumar Jain, president, Sector 18 market association. He added that the road near the market is being used by parking contractors despite shop owners’ objections.
A city resident had earlier also approached the Allahabad high court with the contention that the authority was using the main carriageway of some roads, service lanes, green belts and other public utility spaces as parking for vehicles.
“The Noida authority is using metalled roads in Sector 16 and other sectors, apart from the green belt at Sector 15, for parking,” said Shrikant Vaidya, the petitioner in the high court.
