Noida: Lover kills live-in partner for marrying another man, arrested
Police said the accused had murdered a 30-year-old woman, identified as Sushma Devi, on the night of October 14 at her rented accommodation. He then fled to his home town in Aligarh.
A 35-year-old man was arrested by the police on Sunday for allegedly murdering his live-in partner for marrying another man in Nadarganj area of Dadri, Greater Noida.
The accused has been identified as Ashok Kumar Upadhyay.
Police said the accused had murdered a 30-year-old woman, identified as Sushma Devi, on the night of October 14 at her rented accommodation. He then fled to his home town in Aligarh.
Sushma was also a resident of Aligarh and has been living in Dadri for around three years.
The matter came to light when some passersby spotted her bleeding profusely at the door of her rented accommodation. A call was made to the police control room following which a team took her to the Dadri government hospital where doctors declared her brought dead at around 9:30pm.
She had received a bullet injury to her head and her neighbours were unaware of the incident. Police said the neighbours did not know anything about her and so a case was registered against an unknown person.
Dadri SHO Ram Sen Singh said, “We had recovered a cellphone from the crime spot and scanned it. We prepared a detailed call record which gave us clues about who all she had spoken with around the time of the incident. The details led us to the accused, Upadhyay. He was among those whom the deceased contacted regularly.”
Technical surveillance of Upadhyay’s number helped the police trace him from Hardullah Ganj area in Aligarh. In view of the information, team from Greater Noida went to the area and got him arrested from his residence.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime over betrayal. He told police that the woman was known to her for eight years. The woman was already married to a person named Mukesh, who later died in road accident.
Sushma shifted to Dadri three years ago and was living with Upadhyay.
Before the incident the woman had told Upadhyay that she got married to another person. In view of this information, Singh allegedly planned to murder her. He purchased a country-made pistol and went to their house, police said.
“Around 9pm when the accused visited the house, the electricity went off. The woman came outside and he attacked her in the area at point-blank range,” Ram Sen Singh said.
The accused managed to flee from the spot taking cover of darkness and fled to his home town in Aligarh.
“A case of murder has been registered against Ashok Kumar Upadhyay and was sent to jail after producing in court,” Singh added.
