A 16-year-old girl was allegedly molested and pushed to her death from the third floor of a building by her landlord’s son at Ghari Chaukhandi village in Noida’s Phase 3, police said.
The incident took place around 9pm on Wednesday after the girl apparently had an altercation with the landlord’s son, who is also a minor. The boy was apprehended by the police on Thursday evening.
“We lodged a case under sections of murder, molestation, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after receiving a complaint from the family members of the girl at the Phase 3 police station. The matter is under investigation and the accused, who is also a juvenile, has been apprehended,” said Kiran Sivakumar, senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar.
Pankaj Pant, the SHO of Phase 3 police station, said the accused was apprehended from one of his relative’s place in Noida after the location of his mobile phone was traced.
“The accused is a juvenile. He was sent for a medico-legal test for confirmation of his age. The child welfare committee has been informed and he will be sent to a juvenile home,” said Pant.
He said that the family members of the deceased alleged that she was having an altercation with the boy when he pushed her.
They also alleged that the accused had allegedly molested the girl too.
“The family of the girl has alleged that she had turned down the advances of the accused several times earlier. In fact, the girl had been sent to her maternal uncle’s place in Mainpuri after repeated attempts of molestation by the accused earlier. The girl studied in Class 9 at a government school in Mainpuri and had come to her parents’ place during Diwali vacations,” said Pant.
The father of the deceased lives in a rented flat on the second floor of the building.
The minor girl had gone up to the third floor to put some wet clothes to dry when the incident took place, the police said.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
