A senior South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) official and his four- year- old grandson were killed in an accident on Tuesday morning. The accident took place near Mathura on the Yamuna Expressway.
The official, identified as Suresh Chandra Yadav, was posted as the deputy commissioner in Najafgarh area of Delhi.
Other occupants of the car — Yadav’s wife Pushpa, 56 and his niece Shilpi, 26 — have sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at the Jaypee Hospital in Noida Sector 128.
“The accident took place 60km from the Zero point of Yamuna Expressway at 7.30am. The family’s Swift Dzire car was hit by an unidentified vehicle following which it rammed the divider. The impact was such that the driver and the child smashed into the windshield and were thrown out of the car,” said an expressway official.
A passerby informed the officials about the accident. The rescue teams had to use hydraulic cutters to pull out the injured from the damaged car, the official said.
Yadav and his grandson Dipanshu were declared dead on arrival by the doctors. Shilpi’s condition is reportedly critical and she has been admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital. Doctors said that the condition of Yadav’s wife is serious but stable.
“The two bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The car debris was removed with the help of cranes. We are checking the CCTV footage to understand the sequence of events. As of now, none of the injured is in a condition to give any statement,” said a senior police official.
