The police on Saturday arrested two of four robbers who had offered a lift to a man in Sector 93 of Noida and robbed him of Rs1 lakh. The police said that they chased the gang and arrested two of them, before launching a combing operation to nab the others.

According to the police, the robbers gave lift to one Mustaqeem on Saturday afternoon in Sector 93 and drove him to ATS roundabout in Greater Noida, during which they tried to rob him. However, personnel in a PCR van that was stationed near the roundabout witnessed the scuffle in the car and started chasing the robbers’ car on Surajpur-Kasna Road.

The robbers drove their car to Kasna and pushed Mustaqeem out after snatching Rs1 lakh from him, the police said.

Seeing the man thrown out of the vehicle, the police approached him and ascertained that he had been robbed by the four persons. The personnel alerted the control room about the Honda Amaze car, in which the four persons were escaping with the money, and they continued to chase the vehicle.

Amit Kumar Shrivastava, the circle officer of Greater Noida-1, said, “The police got suspicious after they witnessed a scuffle inside the car and they started chasing the vehicle. The police intercepted the vehicle at Sector Chi -3. One of the robbers got down from the car and started running into the nearby forest. The police shot the man in his leg and arrested him.”

Police across the district were alerted about the vehicle and around half an hour later, a PCR van in Sector 36 of Greater Noida informed that they had spotted the car. Several police teams were rushed to the area and another robber was held after a brief exchange of gunfire. Two others left behind the car and fled the spot.

Shrivastava said, “Both the miscreants received bullet injuries on their legs and were arrested. The arrested men are identified as Manohar, of Girdharpur in UP, and Anil, of Dankaur.”

Police said Mustaqeem is a plumber contractor and is from Aligarh. He had come to the city to collect a payment after fulfilling his contract.

The police recovered the money from the assailants and are on the lookout for the other persons, identified as Bittu and Vikas, of Dankaur.
