The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration said on Tuesday that Noida will be carved out as a sub tehsil for better administration and residents’ convenience.

At present, Noida’s urban areas and 82 villages are part of the tehsil (administrative unit) office located in Greater Noida’s Dadri, 40 km from Noida. Residents have to travel through congested areas to reach Dadri tehsil office for works such as plot mutation, land records, property verification, domicile certificate etc.

“We will prepare a proposal to carve out Noida as a sub tehsil of Dadri in the next few days and send it to the UP government in Lucknow for approval. It takes around 50 days to get approval for a sub tehsil,” said Kumar Vinit, additional district magistrate (ADM) for administration, Gautam Budh Nagar district.

Shivpal Yadav, UP irrigation and public works development (PWD) minister, had announced in Dadri on Monday that Noida would be made a tehsil.

“I had proposed to the government to make Noida a separate tehsil because Dadri is located far away. Why should people travel 40 km for getting all these works done in Dadri? The government agreed and the minister made the announcement. Now, Noida residents can comfortably get their work done in Noida itself,” said Surendra Nagar, former MP from Noida and a Rajya Sabha member.

However, Noida cannot be made a tehsil as it is not eligible for the same.

“One of the most important criteria to be eligible for a tehsil is the revenue that can be collected from agricultural activities. As Noida does not have adequate agricultural land, it cannot be made into a separate tehsil. Therefore, it will be carved out as a sub tehsil,” said the ADM.

The UP government has agreed to make Noida a sub tehsil as it is the window city of the state.

“Noida is a housing hub and buyers have to get land verification done in a tehsil office before buying property. Now, they can do it here,” said Nagar.

The sub tehsil office is expected to be opened in Sector 19 and a tehsildar-level officer will be posted at the office there to deal with the work.
