A 32-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at Mahagun Moderne residential society in Sector 78 as she was depressed about not getting a job, which “affected” her marriage prospects.

The police said the woman was a BTech graduate and had come to her brother’s house there. No suicide note was recovered from the house.

According to the police, the woman was identified as Ritu Verma, a resident of Gomti Nagar in Lucknow.

The initial investigation by the police revealed that she had come to the city a fortnight ago and was in search of a job.

Parshuram, station house officer of Noida’s Sector 49 police station, said, “The woman had come to stay with her elder brother, Sharad Verma, who works in a private company in Noida. He lives there with his wife.”

“The woman had been looking for job opportunities for quite some time and was depressed as she was not getting a job even after several interviews. Her job status also affected her marriage prospects,” said Parshuram.

“Her brother told us that Ritu’s employment status affected her marriage proposals due to which she was very depressed,” the SHO said.

She allegedly hung herself from the ceiling fan at her brother’s house using her stole.

According to the police, the incident could have taken place on Monday afternoon, when nobody was at home. Her brother returned home around 7pm and found her hanging, the police said.

Police said the victim’s brother had gone out while his wife had gone to Lucknow.

On spotting his sister hanging at the residence, Verma immediately called the police and informed them about
the incident.

A case has been registered in the matter and her body has been sent for a postmortem examination, the police said.
