Police busted an alleged sex racket in on Friday afternoon, rounding up 10 persons from Noida Sector 12.
According to the police, the racket was being run by Jay Prakash Yadav in a rented house at block W of Sector 12 for the past three months. The police denied that the persons were engaged in consensual sex and insisted that prostitution was being run through an acquaintance of Yadav’s.
“We received an anonymous tip that a sex racket is being run in Noida’s Sector 12. We raided the place and found few men and women in a compromising positions. We arrested them from the spot and registered a case of immoral act,” said Vinay Prakash, station house officer, Sector 24 police station.
The police arrested a total of seven men and three women under The Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956 and charged them with running a racket from a rented apartment. Under this act, the police can arrest persons if they find a place or portion of any house used for sexual exploitation or abuse for the gain of another person or for the mutual gain of two or more ‘prostitutes’.
“They have been running an escort service for the past three months and we are investigating whether any influential persons in Noida are involved or not,” Prakash said.
Prakash said the police are investigating whether the owner of the house was in cahoots with the racketeers.
“Till now, all we know is that these ten persons were involved in the sex racket. We are probing if the owner of the rented house had any connection with them. Only a detailed investigation will shed more light on the functioning of this racket,” Prakash said.
Among the arrested men, two are residents of Khoda and another two are from Dadri. The rest are all from Sector 12.
