Residents are demanding a complete elimination of toll plazas on the Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway and its link to Mayur Vihar-1, and refused to accept DND operator’s proposal of altering few conditions of the agreement.
Responding to an RTI query, the Noida authority said that Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) has invested only Rs 268 crore in building this flyway across the Yamuna in 1997. On the contrary, the operator claims to have invested Rs 408 crore.
Residents argue that the authority should remove the toll now as it has already recovered its investment.
“The DND operators’ proposal that it will charge toll till 2031, instead of an unspecified time period, will not benefit commuters. The operator should remove the toll because it has already recovered its total invested cost. We will not stop protesting until the toll is removed and the flyway control transferred to the government,” said Chetan Sharma, general secretary of the confederation of National Capital Region Residents Welfare Associations (CONRWA).
Noida BJP MLA Vimla Batham and several other social activists said that it was high time the NTBCL took residents’ demands seriously and stopped operations.
“Last week, we told the Noida authority and the NTBCL that we will not call off our protests until the toll is removed. We understand that the authority is bound by the agreement, but we are not. Therefore, we will keep protesting against the operator until the toll is removed,” said Nawab Singh Nagar, former UP minister and BJP leader.
Noida MLA Vimla Batham said that removing the DND toll was not easy because of a flawed agreement signed by the authority officials with the operator in 2001.
“The DND Flyway is a glaring example of how the PPP model can be misused to favour the private companies at the cost of the common man. The first priority for me and my party is to remove the DND toll and fight the corruption that is prevalent in the Noida authority,” said Batham.
