Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad got some relief from the heat after a brief spell of rain on Wednesday afternoon. Although the rain lasted just for a few minutes in Noida, it helped lower the temperature by a few degrees. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius and the highest was 33 degrees Celsius in Noida and Ghaziabad on Wednesday.
The rain lasted for 15 minutes in Noida and 30 minutes in Ghaziabad.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Thursday is expected to be cloudy with thunderstorms and the temperature will go up to 33 degrees Celsius.
The weather is expected to remain cloudy for the few days and the maximum temperature will be reach around 34 degrees Celsius, said an official from the IMD.
Noida traffic inspector Layak Singh said, “Traffic was smooth and no disruption took place following the shower. Traffic jams do take place whenever it rains, but it didn’t rain much on Wednesday,”
“Traffic movement remained smooth except for the Sector 18 underpass, Rai Residency main road and the district magistrate’s camp office intersection near Sector 27,” he added.
However, traffic slowed down in Ghaziabad near Mohan Nagar, CISF Road and areas near the New bus stand.
Meanwhile, residents heaved a sigh of relief as the brief rain brought the temperatures down by evening.
“The sun has not been that harsh in the last couple of days, but the weather was not agreeable at all and the humidity was very unpleasant. The rain has made it better outdoors. We have been hearing about the arrival of monsoon for the past one week, but more showers are required for one to believe that the monsoon has arrived,” said Sneha Bakshi, a resident of Noida’s Sector 11.
The rain also wrought some damage. In Chaura village, a couple was injured as the wall of their house collapsed during the rain. The man, Feroze, sustained injuries on his head and hand, while his wife Sulekha received minor injuries on her arm.
