A group of local residents from Chijarsi tried to block National Highway-24 on Saturday to protest the suicide of a 17-year-old Noida girl who had killed herself a day earlier after being repeatedly harassed and stalked by some youths.
The police also on Saturday nabbed one of the alleged accused and identified him as Raja, 21, a resident of the same locality as that of the girl. Noida superintendent of police Dinesh Yadav has also ordered suspension of local police-post in-charge Hasimuddin.
Two other accused, named by the girl in a complaint to the police, are on the run, police said.
Earlier in the day, a group of agitated local residents reached NH-24 near Chijarsi and tried to stage a dharna there, a move that was very tactfully foiled by the police. Later, additional forces from the civil police and provincial armed constabulary were deployed near Chijarsi to avoid any more flare-up.
“The police post in-charge was suspended for laxity in carrying out his duty. We are on the lookout for the other two accused and they will be arrested soon,” said Dinesh Yadav, superintendent of police, Noida.
A 17-year-old girl had killed herself at her Noida Phase 3 residence on Friday after allegedly being harassed repeatedly by three men, the police said.
The girl was found hanging at her home in Chijarsi village of Noida’s Phase 3 on Friday evening.
The girl in her suicide note had named her stalkers as Raja, Shivam and Rahul.
