A 16-year-old boy stabbed a 26-year-old married woman to death at her flat in Sahibabad late on Wednesday night. Later, the teenager surrendered himself to the police.
He told the police he acted out in rage after the woman was trying to force herself on him sexually. The teenager, who is from Madhya Pradesh, said this wasn’t the first time that the woman had tried to have her way with him.
The boy, who had been living with the family as a house help for many years, has been taken into custody and will be sent to a juvenile home, police said.
The incident took place when the woman’s husband, a restaurateur, was out for work at his establishment in Paharganj, New Delhi.
According to police sources, the boy stabbed the woman at least 8-10 times with a kitchen knife and left her in a pool of blood. He also sustained several injuries on his hands when the woman resisted.
“The teenager murdered the woman with a kitchen knife inside the flat; he stabbed her several times before she died. Later, he came to the police station and surrendered. He claimed that the woman was forcing him into a physical relationship with her, and he resisted,” said Rakesh Kumar Singh, station house officer at Sahibabad.
However, the woman’s father, a Kanpur native, said he does not believe the boy’s story. He claimed his daughter’s murder was planned and that several persons were involved.
“Her husband has been trying to get rid of her after he married another woman. He has left his second wife with his parents in Farrukhabad. My daughter’s murder is a conspiracy hatched by her husband and the boy’s surrender is just an act,” the man said.
Although the woman’s husband accepted that he has another wife, he denied murdering the woman. “I married a second time as my parents were alone in Farukkhabad; there was no one to look after them,” he said.
The couple has been married for six years and also has a three-and-a-half-year-old son.
Denying his involvement in the incident, the woman’s husband said, “I was in Paharganj when the incident took place. The police have not told me anything about the motive and said that my wife had some altercation with the boy which infuriated him.”
“He has been staying with me just like a brother. I have not been able to speak to him as he was taken into custody by police,” he added.
The woman’s father now plans to file a formal police complaint and give names of suspects, including her husband, for conspiring in a murder.
The police have sent the body for postmortem.
