The Noida and Greater Noida authorities on Friday approved the proposal of constructing three new bridges across river Hindon to connect Noida and Greater Noida.
The decision was approved in the authorities’ board meeting. Officials said that the bridges will improve connectivity between the two cities, which are separated by river Hindon.
The bridges will be constructed between Sector 150A in Noida and Sector Chi IV in Greater Noida, Shafipur in Noida and Knowledge Park II in Greater Noida, Sector 148 in Noida with Knowledge Park III in Greater Noida.
Three bridges will help in decongesting existing busy roads — 25 km Noida- Greater Noida Expressway, Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) road and Greater Noida west (Vikas Marg) route. During peak hours, around 15,000 vehicles ply on one lane of the expressway, according to estimates. Officials said that the heavy flow of vehicles causes congestion and hinders motorists.
“Since the two authorities are ready to work on this ambitious project of three new bridges, we will now take the project to next stage. We need to provide smooth, seamless connectivity between the two cities. We will begin work on the ground once all necessary procedures are completed. All involved authorities will share the cost of the three bridges,” Deepak Aggarwal chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority, said.
Officials said that vehicular pressure is rising on the existing roads between two cities due to increasing population.
“Many group housing complexes are under construction in Noida and Greater Noida. As a result, the traffic volume on the roads will increase even further in the near future. Even now, traffic jams are witnessed on roads on the main roads when big events take place in Greater Noida’s Expo Mart building. Therefore, we are constructing these three bridges keeping in mind the future traffic volume as well,” Rajiv Tyagi general manager of the Greater Noida authority, said.
Once the bridges are ready, alignment of roads will be finalised and the construction on these important links will be started by the two authorities.
The two authorities have already built a bridge between Greater Noida’s sector 1/Tech Zone-IV and Noida’s sector 112/115.
“This bridge is ready and the Greater Noida authority has built an approach road to connect the bridge with nearby areas. But the Noida authority is yet to build an approach road, following which the bridge can be used,” Tyagi said.
Approach roads that will connect these three bridges with existing roads will be built separately by two authorities.
