Three carjackers held in Greater Noida
They used to irritate victims driving cars, forcing them to stop and engage in a verbal duel. Meanwhile, one of them would enter the victim’s car and speed away
Three men who would irritate other riders by overtaking them and later rob them of their cars in Noida- Greater Noida were arrested by the police from Gaur City on Wednesday.
Police said the trio were members of ‘Nano gang’, largely involved in robbing owners of their luxury cars. They have been identified as Amit (24), Kapil ( 26), both residents of Loni in Ghaziabad and Vikas, 25, from Baghpat.
Two weeks ago, police had nabbed their accomplices with five cars including Verna, Ritz, Swift Dzire, Santro, Alto and six bikes in Bisrakh. Further probe and searches led to the arrest of the trio.
On a tip-off, the three were intercepted at Gaur City around 6:30 am and arrested with an Esteem car and a bike. The investigation officer said that the three members of the gang arrested on Wednesday were the main executors as they would overtake their target and rob their victims of their vehicles.
Their aim was to infuriate the driver so that he gets out of the four-wheeler and fight with them. “When the driver gets out of the car and argues with them on the issue of overtaking, one of them would enter the victim’s car and speed away. The other two persons of the gang would hold the victim at gunpoint and later leave in their Esteem car,” said Vinod Pandey, station house officer (SHO), Bisrakh police station.
Police said the trio would dispose of the stolen vehicles in Delhi and other parts of the state. During questioning, they admitted their preference for Verna car.
Pandey said, “They have robbed dozens of vehicles and we will nab their contacts in Noida soon.”
“In two cases where the victims were travelling in Verna, they targeted the vehicles even if the driver was not travelling alone. In both cases, the driver was accompanied by a woman. They would stare at the woman and follow her to infuriate the driver. This would lead them to a fight with the driver. Two of them would engage the victim and his woman companion till the time their accomplice fled with the targeted car and then abandon the victims by threatening to shoot them and later flee in their Esteem car,” said Pandey.
The trio was well versed with the routes of Greater Noida and Noida as their relatives reside at various places in the district. Police had unsuccessfully chased them several times in the past .
