Two held for Amity student’s murder
The Noida police arrested Aman Virpal and Monti Rajput for murdering Rama Raju Sandesh on October 17. They said Virpal roped in Rajput to kill Sandesh who “made fun of his accent”.
The Noida police on Friday arrested Aman Virpal and Monti Rajput, both from Panipat in Haryana, for murdering Amity University student Rama Raju Sandesh at the latter’s rented flat in Sector 100 on October 17.
Sandesh hailed from Andhra Pradesh and was a BSc marine science student at the university where Virpal was a student of tourism. The police said he roped in childhood friend Rajput to kill Sandesh as the latter “made fun of his accent”.
“Virpal held a grudge against Sandesh. Over a month ago, when Virpal, Sandesh and some other friends were at a party in the Sector 100 flat, they had a heated argument over Sandesh mocking Virpal’s accent. Virpal got angry as everybody sided with Sandesh. Later, he decided to kill him,” a police officer said.
The police said when Virpal objected to Sandesh’s behaviour that night, others present at the party threatened to throw him out of the flat. “He didn’t do anything then as he was alone, but later he planned the murder along with Rajput,” the officer said.
“We arrested the two accused from a roundabout in Sector 39 during checking. We have also recovered a country-made gun, five live and one used cartridge. During questioning, they said Virpal was angry with Sandesh because he used to publicly mock his accent all the time,” said Dinesh Yadav, superintendent of police (City), Noida.
The police said until July, Virpal and Sandesh stayed at the same hostel and had been friends since 2014. Later, Sandesh shifted to a rented flat where he stayed with two others, Madhur and Nadeem.
At the time of the incident, Madhur had gone shopping while Nadeem and Sandesh were sitting in a room. The police said Virpal attacked Sandesh with an axe while Rajput fired two shots at him.
