In order to lead a healthy lifestyle and encourage others to do so, the residents’ welfare association (RWA) of sector 15, Vasundhara, conducts regular health check-up camps in their locality every three months.
“All of us have been living here for 20 years and have grown old together. Most of us have retired and know the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Hence, we hold health check-ups and also conduct yoga sessions every morning at the park in our locality,” said Vijaylakshmi Jhingran, RWA member.
The check-ups include blood pressure tests, blood sugar tests, cholesterol tests, eye tests and dentist check-ups. .
“These health check-ups are paid for by the RWA funds and are free of cost for the residents. We hold such camps every three months for two days. Almost all residents get to participate in it and some of the doctors who live here also volunteer for the same,” said Neerja Agarwal, president of the RWA.
Agarwal added that on every woman’s day each year, a counselling session for women, conducted by oncologists, is also held.
“One of the residents living in the locality is an oncologist and she offers her free consultation on women’s day wherein all the women in the locality are told about the symptoms and other signs of cancer and how to detect it early,” he said.
Jhingran said early morning yoga sessions were started by senior citizens living in the locality just two years ago. “However, it has now bloomed into a community activity and all residents take part in it,” she added.
“We have roped in a volunteer from the Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan, who comes every weekend to teach us yoga asanas and also give us lectures on the benefits of the activity. Yoga’s benefits include physical as well as mental well being,” Jhingran said.
