A contractual worker died inside a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) workshop when a speeding bus on trial run crushed him, police said.
The incident occurred at about 1 am on Friday when the deceased, identified as Prince, 16, was sitting inside the DTC workshop at Sector 16 area. A low floor DTC bus which had come for some repair was on a test drive.
“The bus rammed into a pillar where Prince was sitting. He was crushed between the pillar and the bus. He was then taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. We are investigating the case,” said Amarnath Yadav, station house officer (SHO), Sector 20 police station.
Father of the deceased, Gurudayal Singh, said he was not informed about his son’s death till morning.
“Some of the fellow workers of Prince called me up at about 4am. I was told that he had met with an accident and he is injured. When I rushed to the hospital, they diverted me to the morgue where I found my son dead. I don’t know what happened and who killed my son. I want the police to arrest the culprits,” Singh said.
He said Prince was the eldest of three siblings and was helping him in earning money for the family.
“Our financial condition is not good. Prince had joined as a contractual worker at the DTC workshop a couple of years back to help me financially. Now he is no more and nobody is here to answer how and why,” Singh added.
Singh, a resident of Trilokpuri area of Delhi, works as a mechanic at a private firm.
“A case has been registered of death due to negligence against unidentified persons. We will check what led to the incident,” Yadav said.
