Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of setting up a task force to prepare an action plan for the next three Olympic Games, and expressed hope that it would yield positive results.
“I want to thank sir. I hope we get many medals in the coming Olympics. Results will surely be really good,” Karmakar told ANI.
The 23-year-old, who is from Agartala, narrowly missed the bronze medal at the recently concluded Rio Olympics.
On Friday, Modi announced setting up a task force to prepare an action plan for the next three Olympic Games of 2020, 2024 and 2028.
The PM made the announcement at the meeting of council of ministers on Friday. The task force will prepare the overall strategy for sports facilities, training, selection procedure and other related matters.
The team will comprise in-house experts as well as those from outside. Modi said the task force will be set up over the next few days.
