Jitu Rai, one of India’s medal hope from the shooting range, got a rude awakening when he finished eighth in the final of the 10m air pistol event. The 28-year-old Army man will feature in the 50m pistol event on Wednesday, which is his pet event where he has won gold medals in multi-sports competitions before.

Rai had a slow start in the 10m event and shot 580, a poor score by his standard, to be ranked sixth in qualification round. He continued to struggle in the final.

Rai would be looking to be sharp of the blocks on Wednesday and make it into the final, carrying forward the momentum.
