PV Sindhu’s maiden India Open superseries badminton win - a statistical review

PV Sindhu beat Olympic champion Carolina Marin in a rather one-sided Indian Open superseries badminton final in Delhi on Sunday. Currently number 5 in the rankings, the win will her climb the Badminton World Federation rankings.

PV Sindhu became the second Indian after Saina Nehwal to win women’s singles title in India Open Superseries badminton by beating top seed Spain’s Carolina Marín 21-19, 21-16 in the final at the Siri Fort Sports Complex, New Delhi on Sunday (April 2). (IPL 2017 - Full coverage)

It was PV Sindhu’s fourth win in nine matches against Carolina Marin, who beat the Indian world No. 5 in the final of Rio Olympic Games.

Saina Nehwal won the 2015 title by beating Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon 21-16, 21-14. She beat Malaysian Wong Mew Choo 20–22, 21–14, 21–12 in 2010 to win this title for the first time.
