Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu stunned reigning world and Olympic champion, Carolina Marin, in straight games, 21-19, 21-16, to lift the India Open Super Series title in New Delhi on Sunday.

In the process, Sindhu got payback against Marin for the Rio Olympics final loss last year.

Following her win, some of the biggest names in Indian sports took to Twitter to laud her on her win.

Cricket great Sachin Tendulkar termed Sindhu as a ‘true winner’, while boxing legend MC Mary Kom and union sports minister Vijay Goel also hailed her on her victory.

Former India cricketer VVS Laxman and current head coach of the Indian team, Anil Kumble, congratulated Sindhu on the Super Series title win, whereas a jubilated Viren Rasquinha, former Indian men’s hockey captain and now CEO of Olympic Gold Quest, posted a picture of the champion from his account.

Sindhu’s win is likely to give her a big push in the BWF world rankings, with the Indian badminton star likely to be placed 2nd when the charts are updated this week.
