Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed his anger over the death of a national level wrestler Vishal Kumar Verma, who died due to electrocution in a stadium at Ranchi.
The 22-year-old Verma lost his life last Tuesday when he was electrocuted by a wire which was hanging loose in the washroom of the Jaipal Singh Stadium. The grappler was found unconscious by the locals and was rushed immediately to a nearby hospital.
Verma, who was visiting the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association (JSWA), was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors. It has been reported that the stadium building was flooded after heavy rainfall in the area.
Sehwag took to Twitter on Saturday morning to express his anger.
“Another Negligence. We have lost a National Wrestler #VishalKumarVerma ,due to electrocution at this water logged stadium in Ranchi.Pathetic!” he wrote.
JSWA head Bhola Singh, who had announced an immediate relief of Rs.1 lakh for Verma’s family, has condemned the incident. JSWA will also be paying a monthly relief of Rs.10,000 to the wrestler’s family as he was the only earning member.
“He didn’t respond to treatment and was declared dead. It’s an unfortunate incident. He was our most trusted grappler and was given the responsibility of opening the office in the morning. He also ran errands. But Tuesday morning proved fatal,” he said.
