Top contenders Pankaj Advani, Geet Sethi and Ashok Shandilya booked their berths in the last 16 stage of the 76th National Billiards and Snooker Championship on Tuesday.
Former Asian gold medallist Shandilya scored the day’s first break of 100 in the second game against Chetan Shah and won 100-0. Mesmerising Shah with his perfect potting, Shandilya had won the first game 101-11 and went on to take the third 100-16.
Shyam Jagtiyani put up some resistance against Advani by winning the third game of a Group A match but the champion carried too many tricks in his bag and won 100-3, 102-0, 55-100 and 102-55.
Losing the second game to a spirited Nittin Kohli had little effect on Geet Sethi and the veteran of many a battle triumphed 100-2, 87-100, 101-85, 100-0.
There was joy in store for the hosts as Kan Kan Shamsi outplayed Amir Hussain 102-24, 100-54, 101-59.
In other results, Alok Kumar beat Saket Shroff 100-56, 100-40, 100-43 while Saurabh Kothari had to struggle hard against IV Rajeev before winning 91-102, 103-0, 102-14, 80-102, 103-7.
