Fernando Alonso posted the fastest time Friday in a rainy first practice for the Turkish Grand Prix, and Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel crashed but was unharmed.
The two-time F1 champion from Spain completed 13 laps and set a fastest lap of 1 minute, 38.67 seconds 1.402 seconds faster than Nico Rosberg and 1.462 quicker than seven-time champion Michael Schumacher. India’s Narain Karthikeyan, driving for Hispania, completed eight laps, clocking 1:48.461.
Sebastian Vettel was unhurt after crashing his Red Bull car on Friday. Vettel went way out on a right turn, and his car slid left back across the track and into the crash barrier on the other side of the slippery Istanbul Park track.
