Chennai to host carrom nationals after three decades

The 37th Senior National and Inter-State Carrom Championship for men and women will be held at Chennai's SDAT multipurpose indoor stadium from February 2-7.

The event, to be organised by the Chennai District Carrom Association under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Carrom Association and All India Carrom Federation, will see players from 37 states and Union Territories and 15 institutions, like All India Electricity Control Board, LIC and Banks Sports Board, taking part in it.

Chennai is hosting the nationals after a gap of 33 years and the championship will have eight categories - inter-state team championship for men and women, inter-institutional team Championship for men and women, men's and women's singles, veteran men's and women's singles.

International umpire Avinash Virkar of Maharashtra has been nominated as the Chief Referee for the championship, according to Janardhan V Sangam, member of the Referees' Sub Committee of the AICF.
