East Bengal defeated Dempo 3-2 after extra time to win a thrilling Federation Cup final here in Siliguri on Sunday. Climax Lawrence put Dempo in front after the interval but Arnab Mondal equalised as the game finished 1-1 after regulation time. Manandeep Singh and Edeh Chidi scored for East Bengal in extra time and although Dempo pulled one back through Mahesh Gawli, East Bengal held on for their third Federation Cup title in four seasons and eighth overall.

Haryana to face Punjab in semis

Bangalore: Defending champions Haryana and Punjab came through some tricky moments to join hosts Karnataka in the semifinals of Hockey India's second senior men's National Hockey Championship here Sunday. Haryana opened the day's quarterfinal proceedings with a 4-2 win over Manipur, while Punjab shrugged off a one-goal deficit to beat Railway Sports Promotion Board 5-1. They will now clash for a place in the final.

Jeev finishes t-17 at Tokai Classic

Nagoya, Japan: Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh carded a steady even-par 72 on the final day to finish tied 17th at the Tokai Classic at the Miyoshi Country Club's 7,315-yard West Course. Overnight leader Korean Hyun-Woo Ryu won his maiden title on the Japan Golf Tour with a playoff victory over Shingo Katayama. The 31-year-old Ryu is playing in his rookie year in Japan.

Bhullar ends 9th at Taiwan Masters

Taipei: Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar was quite literally blown away by the wind as he tumbled to a four-over 76 to finish tied ninth from overnight fifth at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters. Bhullar, who was aiming for another top-five finish, ended at five-over 293. Overnight leader Tsai Chi-huang (76) of Chinese Taipei won the event for the second time in his career despite shooting a final round of four-over 76 on Sunday. Anirban Lahiri (76) finished tied 25th at nine-over 297 as he dropped from overnight 14th.

Cavani keeps Napoli level with Juve

MILAN: Edinson Cavani followed up Wednesday's hat-trick against Lazio by converting a second-half penalty on Sunday to give Napoli a 1-0 win at Sampdoria. The win kept Napoli level with Juventus, who thrashed AS Roma 4-1 on Saturday, at the top of the table.
