Ace forward from Shahbad, Surinder Kaur, has been retained captain of the Indian team for the forthcoming World Cup (September 4-12) and the Commonwealth Games in Delhi from October 3-14.

The selection trials were held at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, on Friday. The selection committee, comprising Col Balbir Singh, Ajit Pal Singh, Zafar Iqbal, Sita Mehta and Rupa Saini, named an 18-member squad for the World Cup and a 16-member squad for the CWG.

Surinder Kaur, who won the Arjuna Award in 2009, became captain of the Indian squad in July 2008 and since then she has led India to gold in the Champions Challenge Trophy in 2009, silver in 2010 Asia Cup and bronze in the recently held Asian Champions Trophy.

Veteran goalkeeper, Deepika Murthy, who skipped the last tour because of illness, has been recalled for both the tournaments. Jasjeet Kaur, who's been chosen for the Arjuna this year, is also in the team for both the World Cup and the CWG.
