Games have brought new sporting era in India: Kalmadi

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Commonwealth Organising Committee head Suresh Kalmadi said on Thursday that the organisation of the Commonwealth Games has brought a new sporting era in the country.

He said that the Delhi Games was the most watched and enjoyable Commonwealth Games ever. Praising the Indian athletes, Kalmadi said that India finished second and has also doubled its medal tally from the previous games.

He said that by hosting the Games, India has made statement to the world.

Kalmadi also thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA President Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna and Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit for their constant support.

He said that over 75 CWG records were broken during Delhi Games.

Kalmadi said that Delhi has advanced by 10 yrs due to holding of the Games.
