India opened their medal account in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at Penang, Malaysia with Deepak Lather bagging a gold and two silver in the boys’ 50kg youth section.
Lather’s effort of 83kg in snatch fetched him a gold while he lifted 102kg to bag a silver in clean and jerk. His total lift of 185kg gave him another silver.
PSB crowned Nehru hockey champions
New Delhi: Punjab & Sind Bank scored 6-5 win over Bharat Petroleum in a shootout to win the title in the 50th edition of the Nehru senior hockey tournament that concluded here on Monday at the Shivaji Stadium. In the regulation period both the teams were 3-3. The winning goal in the shoot-out was scored by Vikramjeet Singh, who was also declared ‘best player’ of the tournament.
