India were off to flying start in the World Men's Team Squash Championships as they scored an emphatic 3-0 win over Hungary with Sourav Ghosal leading the charge at the event in Paderborn, Germany.
Seeded sixth and placed in Pool F, the team of Ghosal, Sidharth Suchde and Mahesh Mangaonkar faced little challenge from their opponents with each of them winning convincingly in straight games at the Ahorn-Sport Park.
Suchde was the first to take the court and he took 30 minutes to send Sandor Fulop packing 11-6, 11-5, 11-9. Ghosal made it 2-0 for India as he hardly broke a sweat in his 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 thrashing of Marton Szaboky in 28 minutes. Mahesh Mangaonkar then completed the clean sweep for India as he beat Peter Hoffman 11-5, 11-4, 11-9 in 25 minutes. The Indian team will now meet Kuwait.
India football team drubbed
Port of Spain: The Indian football team failed to continue its recent good show and was handed a 0-3 drubbing by Trinidad and Tobago despite putting up a spirited performance in their international friendly here on Monday.
In the end, Armando Colaco's boys found their opponents, who are 65 places above them at 88th in FIFA rankings, too good at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Trinidad and Tobago, who led 1-0 at half time, scored through Stern John (19th) and Darryl Roberts (47th and 85th).
The first goal of the 'Soca Warriors' came off a penalty from veteran striker John in the 19th minute while Roberts added two more in the 47th and 85th minute respectively.
Both the teams started cautiously. India conceded the first goal in the 19th minute when Raju Gaikwad brought down Darryl Roberts on the right side of the box. Stern gleefully converted from the spot.
T & T doubled their lead immediately after the resumption when Darryl Roberts making it 2-0 in the 47th minute. India again conceded a late goal in the 85th minute when T & T caught the Indian defence on the wrong foot.
