The Indian basketball team recorded an impressive 99-42 win in Group A over Sri Lanka on the opening day of the Middle Asia Zone qualifying matches at the Thyagraj Stadium, here on Wednesday.

Vishesh Bhriguvanshi was the top scorer of the match with 16 points while Jagdeep Singh and Prakash Mishra had 15 each.

With this win India are sitting pretty at the top of Group A and will play second-placed team in Group B on Thursday.

With the game becoming a lop-sided affair early, Indian coach Kenny Natt was able to play his entire 12-man squad, including young Satnam Singh Bhamara and Amjyot Singh, both of whom had impressive debuts for the young cagers.

Earlier on Wednesday, Nepal cruised to a 79-53 victory over Bhutan in a Group B clash.
