International woman boxer MC Marykom of All India Police Board defeated Shakuntala of Chhattisgarh 20-4 in 46-kg category in the preliminary round of the 10th Senior Women Boxing Championship.
The championship began amidst drizzling this evening at JRD Tata Sports complex in Jamshedpur.
Four-time world champion, Marykom dominated the proceeding right from the start from red corner and did not allow any space to her rival.
Shakuntala tried to put up challenge but converted the availed chances in the second and third round of the bout.
Marykom who had already established inaccessible score against her inexperienced rival, finally grabbed to bout in her favour.
The results of the others bouts fought on the inaugural day of the championship are: 46-kg category : P Nirosha (Andhra Pradesh) beat Hardeep Kaur (Chhattisgarh) 13-0, Manarama Maharana (Karnataka) lost to Krishna Thapa (MP) 4-20, Diple Bamrah (Jharkhand) lost to Arti (Delhi) 2-24, Rekha Pradhan (Maharashtra) beat Sunita Chetri (Sikkim) 5-3, Roshni Bhusal (Meghalaya) lost to Hemani Mehta (Uttarakhand) 5-8 and Gangandeep Kaur (Punjab) trounced Josmy George (Kerala) 12-6.
