The Commonwealth Games women’s doubles gold medallists Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa had little difficulty in overcoming Denmark’s Mari Helsbol and Anne Skelbaek 21-11, 21-18 in the first round of the All England Championships on Wednesday.

The Commonwealth Games women’s doubles gold medallists Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa had little
difficulty in overcoming Denmark’s Mari Helsbol and Anne Skelbaek 21-11, 21-18 in the first round of the All England Championships on Wednesday. In the men’s singles, India’s Anand Pawar lost to Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 16-21, 18-21.

Somdev, Bopanna cross second hurdle
Indian Wells:
Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna reached the second and final round of
qualifying of the BNP Paribas Open underway at the Indian Wells on Wednesday. Somdev beat Michael Mc Clune 6-3, 6-1 while Bopanna defeated Canada’s Peter Polansky 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-5.

Hockey camp put off to March 15
Chandigarh:
With both Hockey India (HI) and the Indian Hockey Federation failing to reach a consensus over the probables on Wednesday, there is uncertainty over commencement of the coaching camp. The camps for both men and women, which were earlier scheduled from March 10 in New Delhi, have now been postponed to March 15. HI has informed the players about the postponement

India held to draw by myanmar
New Delhi:
India played out a 1-1 draw against Myanmar in their away leg of the first-round pre-Olympic football qualifier at the Youth Training Centre, Yangon on Wednesday. C.S.Sabeeth scored for India in the 90th minute while Kyaw Ko Ko struck for the hosts in the 64th minute.

East Bengal back to winning ways
Kolkata:
Baljit Sahni scored a brace to help East Bengal win 3-0 against JCT in their 17th round I-League 4 match here on Wednesday. With the win, East Bengal are still third with 35 points while JCT remained on 14. The feeling was of relief after the red and golds had broken their five-match win drought in the I-League.
