Rushmi Chakravarthi

For Rushmi Chakravarthi, the senior-most women's player on the domestic circuit, the Lucknow leg of the ITF Futures tennis tournament turned out to be a shocker.

Seeded second, Rushmi went down tamely to Kaori Aoyama of Japan in straight sets in a first round on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Chennai player couldn't match the speed and aggression of Aoyama, who didn't allow Rushmi to settle down on the grass courts of the Oudh Gymkhana Club. Aoyama wrapped up the first set in 25 minutes.
