Parupalli Kashyap lost his quarterfinal match at the $350,000 China Open Super Series Premier badminton event to local hope Zhengming Wang in straight games here Friday.
The World No 17 Chinese won their first ever encounter 21-17, 21-7 in 34 minutes at the Yuan Shen Gymnasium.
Wang's net winners proved crucial as he took several points away from world number 23 ranked Kashyap.
Saina retains world number three rank
New Delhi: London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal has retained her third place in the latest world badminton rankings announced today.
Saina had won the Denmark Open Super Series Premier title last month before losing to Japan's Minatsu Mitani recently in the final of the French Open Super Series. Another rising star from Hyderabad, P V Sindhu retained her 25th ranking.
Bhanot to contest IOA elections
New Delhi: With the deadline for filing nomination forms for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) elections ending on Friday, it has emerged that Lalit Bhanot will be contesting for the post of secretary-general. Volleyball Federation of India secretary-general, K Murugan, and Judo Federation of India secretary-general, Mukesh Kumar, are the other candidates for the post. After scrutiny of nomination forms, the list of valid candidates will be announced on Saturday. The candidates can withdraw their names by November 20. IOA's incumbent secretary-general, Randhir Singh, and Abhey Singh Chautala, chairman of the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation, are contesting for the post of president.
Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee has made it clear that the elections will have to be conducted as per the Olympic Charter and IOA Constitution, and not as per the government's Sports Code.
