Mansher ties with Manavjit on opening day of qualifiers

Veteran trap shooter Mansher Singh was tied with former world champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu on the first day of qualification in the National Shotgun Championships being held at the Karni Singh Ranges in Tughlakabad.
In the three rounds of 25 birds each shot on Thursday, Mansher, representing Punjab, shot 24, 24 and 25 to total 73/75. Manavjit too shot 73, while Birendeep Sodhi (Air India) was a point adrift on 72.
With two more qualification rounds of 25 each on Friday followed by a finals round of 25, it promises to be a keen contest between the three top marksmen.
In the women's trap section, six shooters, led by Army's Seema Tomar, entered the final with an aggregate of 68/75. She was followed by Shagun Chowdhary (ONGC) 65.
DPS, Noida win Arsenal ‘soccer stars’
Delhi Public School, Noida, beat Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, 3-1 via a tie-breaker to emerge as the winners of the Arsenal-Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars competition from among 77 schools at the Ambedkar Stadium.
DPS Noida along with 14 other finalists from each of the other locations will compete in the national finals to be held on 9th April, 2011.
During the course of the tournament Jamshed Nassiri will also identify 30 exceptional young talents to be trained by Arsenal coaches here and in London. Sixteen shortlisted kids from these 30 will represent India at the Arsenal International Soccer Festival to be held in London later this year.
