My money is on Saina to win gold

I felt we had a chance to at least stretch the match in the final women's doubles and then anything was possible. But I am still very happy with the overall performance. The 3-0 win over England in the semifinals is a testimony of the progress we have made since losing to them 3-2 at the same stage in the 2006 Melbourne Games.

If one would have ask me how I felt after we beat England to qualify for the final, I would have said I am on cloud nine. But after the final, it's a mixed feeling.

Unfortunately we could not maintain the momentum in the final against Malaysia. Both the mixed doubles and men's doubles combinations played well and had their chances. But their inability to dominate at vital junctures allowed the defending champions to retain the gold medal they have now won for the third time in a row.

Saina won her singles match against Wong Mew Choo but it was not an easy outing like on the earlier occasions. Mew Choo is a fantastic retriever and she was willing to fight for every point.

Saina ultimately prevailed against her and it will definitely help her prepare for the individual events that began on Saturday.

Saina had a first round bye and will open her campaign against Sarah Thomas of Wales. Saina has never played Sarah before but I am not worried about that. She is expected to meet Anna Rice of Canada in the quarterfinals and the real test will start from there.

However, I feel that Saina has a very good chance to win gold on home soil and with the form she has shown in the mixed team championship, I will put all my money on her. Hawkeye communications / Chivach sports
