Saina Nehwal’s experience of playing at the highest level came to her rescue as she squeezed out a 21-16, 19-21, 21-19 win against rank outsider Hsiou Huan Chen of Chinese Taipei in the second round of the Malaysian Super Series in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

She will now face fourth seed Hongyan Pi of France in the quarterfinals. The Indian challenge in the men's singles ended with Chetan Anand and Anup Sridhar going down to higher ranked opponents.

Women singles: Saina Nehwal (5) bt Hsiou Huan Chen 21-16, 19-21, 21-19. Men’s singles: Chetan Anand lost to Peter Gade (3, DEN) 21-7, 21-8; Anup Sridhar lost to Sony Dwi Kuncoro (2, INA) 21-12, 21-18. Mixed doubles: V Diju/Jwala Gutta lost to Kien Keat Koo/Hui Lin Ng (MAS) 21-18, 21-14.
