When Tamil Tadu's Neena Praveen reached here to compete at the 8-ball Women’s Pool National Championships at the YMCA, she never dreamt of holding the winner’s trophy. On Tuesday, she did just that and that too in style beating compatriot Vidya Pillai 5-3 in the final.
This is the third consecutive runners-up trophy for Pillai in national pool. Though Pillai made the initial move taking the first two racks in no time, Praveen came back strong and took the scores to 4-2. Despite Pillai's resilience, the 27-year-old did not give an inch in the eighth rack. “I always dreamed of winning, but never thought I would win this time,” she said.
In the men's 9-ball pool, Manan Chandra, Alok Kumar and Davendra Joshi stormed into the next round. While Manan beat Sunny Chaudhury 7-3, Alok beat Varun Taneja 7-2.
