Secretary general of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Lalit Bhanot put up a brave front in the face of a media onslaught and said that there was no reason to panic about the Games or the Games Village. Here's what he had to say about the latest controversy.
On the pullout and cancellation threat
There's absolutely no such threat. Everybody has confirmed their participation and as far as I can say, everybody will come. The Games Village will not be an issue due to which a team will pull out.
Whether the OC delayed work in cleaning up the mess after teams complained some three-four days ago
We have been taking care of every aspect of the Games Village. It's a big Village and we have been cleaning up tower by tower. Concerns have been shown by the CGAs and we have been addressing the issues. Hygiene and cleanliness have been issues and by September 23 evening, all basic amenities will be in place. On whether friction between different agencies have hampered smooth functioning
There has been no overlapping of work. OC has been doing the job and all the stakeholders are assisting and helping us to ensure that everything is ready by the time athletes start arriving in the City.
Whether OC got incomplete venues from venue owners, including the Games Village
Don't want to comment on that. There have been deficiencies in the Village and we are addressing them. As far as the venues are concerned they are in perfect shape right now.
