Olympic-bound Indian discus thrower Krishna Poonia produced a below-par effort of 62.11m to miss out on a medal and settle for the fourth spot in the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League Meet at Eugene in Oregon, United States. Her effort was lower than the national record of 64.76m that she set in Hawaii last month to qualify for the London Olympics.

Humpy in lead in world championship
Batumi, Georgia: Koneru Humpy and Bulgaria’s Stefanova Antoaneta kept their unbeaten record intact after day two and six rounds of play at the 2012 women's World Chess Rapid and Blitz Championships. Stipend for Jr hockey players
Hockey India (HI) is set to provide a stipend of Rs. 10,000 per month to the men and women's probables in the junior India set-up. This money will be provided so that the players can buy their individual kits. However, the goalkeepers in the probables list don't need to spend on kits as HI will bear their expenses. The money will be deposited in every player’s bank account on quarterly basis i.e. Rs. 30,000 in every three months.

Ipoh: Malaysia will host the 2013 Asia Cup hockey, the tournament that will offer qualification berth for the 2014 World Cup. This will be the second successive time that Malaysia will host this championship.
