Top shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Chetan Anand have been ranked No 1 in the men's and women's sections of the Syed Modi International Grand Prix Badminton Championship, which begins at the UP Badminton Academy from December 15.
Besides Olympian Saina, three other Indians — Aditi Mutatkar (4th), Trupti Murgunde (7th) and Sayali Gokhale (8th) are among the seeded players, while in the men's section, Arvind Bhatt (2nd), Parupalli Kashyap (4th), Anup Sridhar (6th), Anand Pawar (7th) and Gurusaidatt (8th) figure among the top eight.
Releasing the seedings on Thursday, tournament director Girish Natu hoped the event would help Indian shuttlers better their world rankings. The championship offers prize money of $50,000.
"We have made all arrangements for the successful conduct of the event and the state government has assured us foolproof security for the players," he said. The mascot of the championship, 'Minto', too was launched on the occasion.
Former All England champion and chief national coach Pullela Gopichand said: "The tourney is going to be a big help to our shuttlers aiming high in future events like the 2010 Commonwealth Games."
The qualifying rounds will be played on December 15 and the championship will officially kick-off on the next day.
