Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal's second successive win earned her a semifinal berth while the mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju also reached the last four stage of the World Super Series Masters Final in Johor Bahru on Friday.
World number eight Saina beat lower-ranked Thai Porntip Buranaprasertsuk 21-13 21-19 in a 33-minute match to finish among top two in Group A. Mew Choo Wong of Malaysia is the other semifinalist from this group.
Jwala and Diju also brought smiles to the Indian camp by winning their do-or-die encounter against Thai combo Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul 21-12 21-8 in just 20 minutes to reach the semifinal.
Saina, who had reached the semifinals last year also, had a disastrous start to her campaign this year when she went down to Wong in her first match.
The 20-year-old, however, bounced back in style, notching up straight wins against Canadian Charmaine Reid and Prontip to advance to the semifinal stage.
The top seed Indian was in brilliant form in the first game and after opening up a 6-3 lead, Saina didn't allow her rival to stage a comeback.
