Salwan Marathon attracts record entries

The 16th edition of the Salwan Marathon, in association with Hindustan Times, will kick-start proceedings on November 14 on a natural race course in the Delhi Cantonment. HT reports.

The 16th edition of the Salwan Marathon, in association with Hindustan Times, will kick-start proceedings on November 14 on a natural race course in the Delhi Cantonment.

Like every year, the marathon will witness an increased participation from school children, with 45,000 having already registered.

"This time, we also have around 150 kids who will arrive from Shivpuri, near Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh)," said Inder Dutt, trustee, Salwan Education Trust. "Our main aim is to get the new generation to run."

The event is not only about sport, but also brings in cooperation. With an entirely different aspect to it, it will also be run by visually impaired children, who will be helped by volunteers.

Close to 1,300 children will take part in this race, most of them hailing from Vadodara, Kolkata, Chandigarh and the National Capital Region.

The race will be 3-km long and will be flagged off at 9am. Volunteers and students from St Stephen's College, Janaki Devi College and Miranda House will help the children.

Other categories are U-14 (3km), U-16 (5km) and U-18 (8km), boys and girls. The winners will be awarded Rs 10,000 with the first and second runners-up getting Rs 5,000 and 2,500 respectively.

The race will be followed by a horse show by the Army Riding and Polo Club.

NK Bagrodia, Heritage school into quarters

On the seventh day of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge here, NK Bagrodia school beat St.Marks, Meera Bagh 2-1. Prashant and Harshit scored a goal each for the winners while Jai found the net for St Marks. In the other match, Heritage, Rohini defeated GD Goenka, Rohini 5-2 on penalties after extra time.

NCC advance

In Nehru junior hockey tournament, NCC Directorate A beat Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun 6-0. Govt High School, Dhar also beat Govt. High School, Kawnpui 2-0, while Sainik School, Bijapur drew 2-2 with Chhatarpati School, Kolhapur. Ganga International School, Delhi also drew 0-0 with Tirhut Academy, Muzzafarpur.

Indian Polo C'ship gets underway

The opening game of the Reid&Taylor Indian Polo Championship will be played between Cavalry USPA and Jindal-Carysil on Wednesday at the Jaipur Polo Ground here.
