Sandhu to the fore as India hammer Oz

Veteran Australian polo player Dick Doolin probably underestimated India’s strengths when he said a couple of days back that, “Our cricket team might be losing to India, but we would like to go back home a victorious lot.”

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Australia lost a one-off polo Test against India 5-8, with Navjit Singh Sandhu and Simran Shergill doing the bulk of the scoring and ensuring the trophy remained in India.

Though both teams were evenly balanced on 14 goals, what perhaps tilted the game for India were the home conditions and the players’ familiarity with the local horses, a disadvantage for the Australian players.
