PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma kept India's medal hopes alive in the Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Championship, making it to the semifinals of their respective categories at the UP Badminton Academy on Thursday.

Fourth seeded Sindhu rallied to outplay China's Zheng Yu in the girls' quarterfinals, whereas Sameer too dropped a game before brushing aside another Chinese, Guo Kai, in the boys' singles.

Despite trailing 10-14 in the opening game, Sindhu won 22-20, before losing the second 11-21.

After a briefing by chief national coach, P Gopi Chand, she stunned her rival with accurate drops and smashes to win 21-12. Sameer won the first game 21-19, but lost the second 12-21. In the decider, he was a different player, winning 21-15.
