Soumyajit youngest national TT champ

India's number one player Soumyajit Ghosh on Saturday became the youngest national champion after he defeated six-time winner Achanta Sharath Kamal in the summit clash of the National Table Tennis Championships. The 19-year-old Soumyajit overcame a tough challenge from Sharath Kamal, world number 70, and won the final 4-2 (3-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7).

GM norm for Murali
New Delhi: 13-years old Murali Karthikeyan scored his maiden Grandmaster norm after securing a draw with Commonwealth champion MR Lalith Babu in the ninth and penultimate round of the premier section of Parsvnath International chess tournament. International Master K Rathnakaran also joined the party by making his second Grandmaster norm defeating top seed Abhijeet Gupta.

New Delhi: Left-arm spinner Sumit Mathur's 5/64 and Siddhant Sharma's 4/36 helped Delhi beat Karnataka by 10 wickets and enter the semifinals of Vijay Merchant Trophy. Delhi play the semifinal at home from January 19. In DDCA league, Manoj Dagar's 5/22, KS Rana's 5/25 and Sunil Kumar's 92 helped KN Colts, Delhi Audit and Central Bank win matches.
