Pop singer Jessica Simpson has become the first celebrity to be linked to Tiger Woods. The blonde beauty became close to the billionaire sportsman after singing the US national anthem at a golf tournament in which he was competing in July, reported Star magazine.

The 29-year-old arrived at the tournament with her boyfriend of 18 months, American football star Tony Romo, but split eight days later.

“Tiger liked what he saw and let her know it,” said a source close to the 33-year-old golfer who was also photographed at the event with his arm around Simpson’s waist.

The spokesperson of the Sweetest Sin singer declined to comment, but a friend of Simpson’s denied the

allegation. “Nothing went on. Jessica was only at the tournament for a few hours. She met Tiger, they took a photo and that was that,” said the friend.

Simpson is now reportedly dating Billy Corgan of the rock band Smashing Pumpkins.

Simpson, meanwhile, is planning legal action against the magazine for linking her to the embattled golfer.

Simpson is furious with the insinuations and her representative has branded claims the two were more than passing acquaintances as “ridiculous”. Simpson’s legal team is already moving to shoot down the magazine’s allegations.

“Literally the only thing that’s true in the story is the fact that they met. It was a quick meeting and they posed for a photo together — that was it.”

Golfer is athlete of the decade

Las Vegas: The vote was for athlete of the decade, not husband of the year. His greatness on the golf course over the last 10 years was more than enough to convince members of The Associated Press that Tiger Woods deserved the best athlete award on Wednesday.
