Vijender gets top seeding in World Championships

Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh (75kg), who is ranked second in the AIBA world rankings, got the top seeding in the World Boxing Championships at Milan, Italy. Vijender also got a bye in the first round and will face Belgibayev Azamat of Kazakhstan in the next round.

Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh (75kg), who is ranked second in the AIBA world rankings, got the top seeding in the World Boxing Championships at Milan, Italy. Vijender also got a bye in the first round and will face Belgibayev Azamat of Kazakhstan in the next round.

Youth world champion Nanao Singh is seeded second in the 48kg weight category while Dinesh Kumar (81kg) and Akhil Kumar (57kg) are seeded fourth and seventh, respectively.

Two Indian boxers Suranjoy Singh (51kg) and Manoj Kumar (64kg) will be in action on Day I on Tuesday. Asian Championship gold medallist Suranjoy will take on Myanmar's Tugstsogt while Manoj will face Carvaho Myke of Brazil. Other Indians in the fray, Nanao Singh (48kg) will meet Mamishzade Elvin of Azerbaijan in his first bout. World Cup bronze medallist Jitender Kumar (54kg) will meet seventh seeded Yunusov Anvar of Tajkistan. World Cup bronze medallist Akhil Kumar (57kg) will meet Navarro Gonzalez Roberto of the Dominican Republic.

Jai Bhagwan (60kg) meets Rodriguez Angel of Venezuela, Beijing Olympian Dinesh Kumar (81kg), who got a first-round bye, will box against Reznicek Vladimir (Czech Republic). Manpreet Singh (91kg), who also got a first-round bye, will meet Usyk Olexandr of Ukraine.
